Imperial College London launches ideation space ‘DigiBox’

May 1, 2024

Imperial College London and audio-visual specialist DVSI have teamed up to create DigiBox, a new interactive co-learning space in the Molecular Sciences Research Hub in White City.

The first of its kind group ideation space is designed to promote a new style of collaborative learning, with a huge interactive Prysm 190 canvas and seamless video conferencing technologies. Designed and installed by audio visual innovator DVSI, the 30-person capacity high tech space was conceived as a new learning concept that brings research and project teams together in an environment fully enabled with the latest high-performance tech.

Located on the ground floor of the Molecular Sciences Research Hub (MSRH) in the fast-expanding Imperial West Campus located in White City, DigiBox will primarily be used by the department of Chemistry for teaching, research and collaborative learning sessions. However the inspirational setting within the heart of one of the world’s top academic institutions also makes for a powerful backdrop to any kind of off-site 3rd party corporate design-thinking or project planning session.

At the heart of the DigiBox is the latest 6K Prysm 190-inch interactive digital canvas, supported by Prysm’s PAS software platform which delivers exceptional digital productivity via an enhanced collaboration experience.

Designed to drive team engagement, streamline communications, and help bring ideas and connections to life, this impressive, fully interactive multi-user digital surface is the largest single panel touch screen in the UK and the first to be deployed in a dedicated educational and research facility. Supported with state-of-the-art video conferencing and audio equipment, DigiBox is also truly hybrid, allowing teams in different campuses to work together and international specialists to be included remotely.

The MSRH offers a unique combination of onsite university connections and is available for hire with hospitality for clients. The space will also be available for demonstration of the cutting-edge technology, for clients looking to explore how it can work for their business.

Richard Cobbold, CEO of DVSI, comments —

“It’s incredibly exciting that DigiBox is delivering state-of-the-art interactive technology in one of the world’s top academic institutions. This new kind of learning environment puts teams together and enables them to intuitively co-create and seamlessly exchange ideas as a group. It is testament to Imperial’s vision for science, that they have recognised the critical role that these new technologies can play in turbo-charging its research programs.”

“Imperial is a truly inspiration setting for any organisation, and we are delighted that Imperial have agreed to also open up the DigiBox co-learning space for 3rd party users to book for their own collaboration sessions and group get-togethers.”

“We are constantly looking for new technologies to enhance our student experience and build on our teaching and research excellence,’ comments Prof Oscar Ces, Head of Department of Chemistry at Imperial. ‘This is the jewel in the crown of international Chemistry research facilities, and we believe that DigiBox, and its stunning 190” collaboration canvas is setting a new standard for next generation learning.”

Tanvir Osama, Vice President for EMEA at Prysm explains —

“This is a great application to see the full potential of Prysm in all it’s glory, enabling group collaboration on a large scale and the visualisation of complex content in a way that students can interact together and visualise processes, drawings and motion graphics. By opening up the space for use by others, it will be great to see how businesses find the tools for meetings and brainstorming too.”
